Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker and social commentator, has predicted what Nigerian Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele may face if retired President Muhammadu Buhari leaves office.
When Buhari stepped down on May 29th, Sani described his CBN chief’s situation as “a zebra in the hands of a tiger”.
The redesign of the naira note has put many Nigerians in countless difficulties after the shortage of new naira notes.
The former Senator believes Central Bank Governor may become less protected against those who tackled the policy if Buhari becomes ex-president later this year.
“When Baba (Buhari) is gone, Emefiele will be like Zebra in the hands of Tigers,” Sani said in a post via his verified Twitter handle late Saturday.
On the other hand, the Supreme Court said last week that he had extended the validity of the old N200, N500 and N1,000 naira notes until December 31 and that CBN must continue to receive notes from Nigerians. The Supreme Court ruled that the president’s order to change the design of the new banknotes was void without sufficient consultation.
