On Monday, the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja returned Godwin Emefiele, the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, to the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Justice Rahman Oshodi issued the remand order immediately after the anti-graft agency charged Emefiele with “abuse of office, accepting gratifications, corrupt demand, receiving property fraudulently obtained, and conferring corrupt advantage.”
In the substance of the accusations, the EFCC claimed that he misused his position as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria by allocating $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.
He was charged with Henry Isioma-Omoile, whom the EFCC accused of taking gifts from agents.
Both defendants pled not guilty to their allegations.
While Justice Oshodi ordered Emefiele to be remanded in EFCC prison, he remanded Isioma-Omoile to the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, where he was already incarcerated.
The judge issued the remand orders while adjourning until Thursday, April 11, 2024, to hear their bail petitions.
