Four unknown gunmen have been eliminated by a crack squad of security officers in Enugu State.
The security forces, which included members of the Nigerian Army, the Police, and the DSS, also retrieved a stockpile of rifles and ammo from the militants, while several ran into the bush with varying degrees of bullet wounds.
The criminals were apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday and overpowered by agents at Eha Alumona in the Nsukka local government area, while formulating diabolical plans to target other sections of the state, including the capital.
According to reports, an ESN commander who had been operating from neighbouring states was apprehended following hours of heavy fire battles between operatives and underworld figures.
According to reports, the renowned ESN leader who was on the wanted list led the security personnel to their hideouts, where they stored their weapons, charms, and other deadly items.
Meanwhile, two security officers who received minor injuries during the exchange of fire are undergoing treatment and have been reported to be in stable condition.
Barr. Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State, had vowed to flush out criminal elements and hoodlums responsible for insecurity in the state through ongoing security reforms, which included the establishment of the Distress Response Squad (DRS), massive investment in the state’s Command and Control Centre, surveillance security system, and modern technology aimed at intercepting and eliminating all forms of security threats.
