After Sevilla eliminated Manchester United from the Europa League on Thursday night, Erik ten Hag was enraged with his team. Even though Sevilla is struggling in La Liga, currently in 13th place and yet in danger of being relegated, the Andalusians outplayed and outfought Manchester United, who is currently third in the Premier League.
After just seven minutes, with the score tied at 2-2 from the first leg, Harry Maguire failed to control a pass from David de Gea. This allowed Erik Lamela to take the ball and throw it to Youssef En-Nesyri for a simple goal.
Early in the second half, Loic Bade scored with a header. After a David de Gea blunder, En-Nesyri added another.
After the game, Erik ten Hag pointed out errors made by De Gea as the cause of his team’s loss. He further vented his displeasure at them.
He said;
“It’s clear. When we make such mistakes, it’s difficult to win a football game. It’s a problem and we have to acknowledge it but against Brighton, we have an opportunity to work on that. You have seen what I have seen. We were not composed or calm.
“It’s a problem, we can’t run away from it. On Sunday we have to step up and show more character and more personality.”
