Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd), former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has regained his freedom after spending 56 days in captivity.

Tsiga was abducted on February 5, 2025, in his hometown of Bakori, Katsina State, along with nine other residents.

Despite his family reportedly paying a ransom, his captors held him for additional weeks before finally setting him free.

There are conflicting reports about the ransom amount. While some sources claim N60 million was paid, others suggest the actual sum was three times higher.

According to Daily Trust, reliable sources indicate that after the ransom payment, the kidnappers remained silent for a week before finally allowing Tsiga to communicate with his family.

The abductors later demanded more money, but no additional payment was made.

Following his release, Tsiga was reportedly transported from Zamfara State and is currently on his way to Abuja.

A senior military source confirmed his release, and family members have expressed their relief over his safe return.

Tsiga abduction and prolonged captivity had raised concerns about the worsening security situation in parts of Nigeria, particularly in the North. While details of his ordeal remain undisclosed, sources indicate that he is in good condition.
