Former Rivers State Head of Civil Service, George Nwaeke, has accused the suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara, of large-scale misappropriation of public funds.
He pledged to provide evidence to security agencies if summoned for investigation.
Speaking at a press briefing on Saturday, Nwaeke described the alleged financial misconduct as “mind-boggling.” His accusations follow claims made on Friday during a press conference in Abuja, where he alleged that Fubara ordered his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to set fire to the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Nwaeke said:
“I cannot also give all my evidence to the media, some are sensitive. I will give details to the proper authorities when required of me.
“The level of stealing of public funds and assets witnessed in the last two years is mind-boggling.
“I have never experienced it in the history of the state as we also had the highest allocation ever within this period.”
According to Nwaeke, he was present at the government house when a bag of money was handed over to Ehie for the operation, though he could not confirm the exact amount.
In response, Governor Fubara dismissed the allegations, stating that Nwaeke had been “compromised” and was being “coerced” to fabricate lies against him. The claims have further fueled the political crisis in Rivers State.
