The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the promotion of forty-nine Deputy Directors to the rank of Director across various departments within the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
This significant career advancement for the officials follows the successful completion of a landmark computer-based promotion examination.
The assessment, which marks the first of its kind for the administration, was conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission on August 12, 2025, at the National Open University’s Duste-Alhaji Centre located in the Bwari Area Council.
According to a formal statement released by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, this promotion exercise is a strategic initiative designed to address and clear the accumulated backlog of promotions for civil servants on Grade Level 16 spanning from 2023 to 2025.
Emeka Eze, the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, provided further details, noting that the newly promoted Directors will occupy forty-nine of the sixty-three available vacancies across different professional cadres.
A breakdown of the promotions reveals that the Education Officer Cadre received the highest number of slots, with twenty promotions. This was followed by the Accountant Cadre, which secured nine positions.
Several other specialised cadres, including Civil Engineer, Social Welfare, Tourism, Fisheries, and Medical Officers, each had a single vacancy filled. Chairman Eze also highlighted the competitive nature of the process, noting that the Education Officer cadre saw eight hundred and twenty eligible officers vying for the twenty available positions, while the Admin Cadre had twelve candidates competing for ten slots.
