The Federal Government’s free cash transfer initiative has provided significant support to over 199,000 residents of Adamawa State, according to the program’s lead official in the state.

Mrs. Mary Yuwadi, the Adamawa State Coordinator for the Social Investment Program, confirmed the figure and announced a major forthcoming expansion of the scheme.

Speaking during an interactive session with stakeholders at the Women Development Centre in Yola, Yuwadi revealed that President Bola Tinubu has directed a substantial scale-up of the national program.

The initiative is now slated to reach 15 million Nigerians, a significant increase from the initial target of five million beneficiaries. This presidential directive means that the number of people receiving support in Adamawa State is expected to more than double once the expansion is fully implemented.

Yuwadi highlighted the transformative impact of the program, explaining that each beneficiary receives a total of N75,000, paid in three separate tranches of N25,000.

She noted that despite the amount seeming small to more affluent citizens, it has enabled meaningful improvements in the lives of recipients. To facilitate the scale-up, the state office is actively updating its register to include more potential beneficiaries.

Patience John, the Training and Communication Officer for the state’s program, added that the scheme is a crucial part of the government’s strategy to build resilience among the most vulnerable citizens and reduce extreme poverty.

She emphasised the application of a transparent targeting mechanism to ensure the aid reaches its intended audience. The stakeholder meeting was organised by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction in collaboration with national and state agencies.
