The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, has announced the replacement of a suspended judge and the redeployment of four other judges in a recent reshuffle.

The move comes as part of ongoing efforts to ensure judicial efficiency and uphold the integrity of the court system.

According to reports, Justice Amina Ahmad, who was suspended pending investigations into alleged misconduct, has been replaced by Justice Mohammed Umar. Justice Umar, previously serving in the Gombe Division, will now take over judicial responsibilities in the Abuja Division, where Justice Ahmad was stationed before her suspension.

In addition to the replacement, four other judges have been reassigned to different divisions of the Federal High Court. Justice Peter Lifu has been moved from the Lagos Division to the Port Harcourt Division, while Justice Inyang Ekwo has been redeployed from the Abuja Division to the Calabar Division. Justice Binta Nyako has been transferred from the Abuja Division to the Yola Division, and Justice Joyce Obehi Abdmalik has been reassigned from the Benin Division to the Kano Division.

The redeployments are expected to take immediate effect, with the affected judges directed to resume their new duties without delay. The Chief Judge emphasised that the reshuffle is a routine exercise aimed at optimising the court’s operations and ensuring fair distribution of judicial workload across the country.

Legal analysts have described the move as a step toward strengthening the judiciary’s effectiveness, particularly in addressing case backlogs and improving service delivery. The Federal High Court continues to play a critical role in Nigeria’s legal system, handling high-profile cases ranging from constitutional matters to economic and financial crimes.

No official statement has been released regarding the specifics of the investigation involving the suspended judge, but sources indicate that the National Judicial Council (NJC) is handling the matter in line with established disciplinary procedures. The judiciary remains committed to maintaining transparency and accountability in its operations.
