The Nigerian government has revealed plans to undertake a comprehensive review of the healthcare policy covering civil servants across the country.

This development was disclosed by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, during a recent meeting with health sector stakeholders in Abuja.

According to officials, the proposed review aims to address existing gaps in the current healthcare scheme and introduce improvements that will enhance service delivery to public sector workers.

The move comes in response to growing concerns about the effectiveness of the present system, particularly regarding access to quality medical care and timely treatment for civil servants and their dependents.

Key areas of focus in the planned review include expanding healthcare coverage, upgrading medical facilities in government hospitals, and streamlining the process for accessing specialised treatments.

The government also intends to incorporate provisions for preventive healthcare measures and mental health services in the revised policy framework.

Stakeholders from various health maintenance organisations and medical associations have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that could significantly improve the welfare of Nigeria’s workforce. The review process is expected to involve extensive consultations with relevant professional bodies and worker unions to ensure all concerns are adequately addressed.

While no specific timeline has been announced for the policy overhaul, government representatives assured that implementation would commence once all necessary assessments are completed. This move aligns with the administration’s broader agenda to reform Nigeria’s public service sector and improve working conditions for civil servants nationwide. Further details will be communicated as the review progresses.
