The federal government of Nigeria has promised to restore power to eight local government areas in Sokoto State, which have been without it for over a decade.
Adelabu Adebayo, the Minister of Power, made the vow recently after the state governor, Ahmed Aliyu, brought it up during an official visit to his office.
Following the minister’s assurance, a delegation from the Ministry of Power was deployed to examine the impacted districts and restore power supplies.
Mustafa Baba Umarah, Director of Distribution at the Federal Ministry of Power, stated during the assessment exercise in Sokoto over the weekend that the federal government’s team would thoroughly investigate the nature of the problems causing the blackout in the affected communities and report back for necessary action.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that all Nigerians have access to power, regardless of their location.
The state’s Commissioner for Energy, Sanusi Dan Fulani, indicated that restoring electricity in the affected regions is consistent with Governor Aliyu’s administration’s attempts to boost economic activity, particularly in rural areas.
