The Federal Government reopened the Third Mainland Bridge yesterday, following the completion of repair work on the bridge.
Mrs Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, expressed pleasure with the bridge repairs, assuring motorists of a comfortable trip till the start of total renovation in January 2024.
At around 7 p.m., the repair work was completed, and the road was made available to users.
Last Thursday, the controller announced a 24-hour shutdown of the bridge to allow for repairs to some vital sections.
To alleviate the suffering experienced by motorists, the closure went into place at midnight on Saturday and is anticipated to stay until midnight on Sunday.
During the inspection, the controller made several stops between Iyana-Oworo and Adeniji-Adele where remedial repairs had been completed on a 9.7-kilometer length of the Lagos Island inbound lane.
According to her
“This repair is going to last beyond January; we don’t intend to do any work that will last only one or two months. Even by January, the road will still be good.”
Kesha stated that some of the components required for the complete restoration work were being imported in order for the emergency repairs to commence.
She said that the Federal Ministry of Works had already attended to failing areas and that the thorough restoration would require total removal and replacement of the asphalt surface.
