In a Facebook post on Thursday, May 11, billionaire businesswoman and philanthropist Folorunso Alakija cautioned that social media and dating apps have made it increasingly difficult to establish genuine connections and build lasting relationships.

According to Folorunso, who has been mentoring young people on healthy relationships for years, the fast-paced culture of today’s world has made it easy to lose sight of what truly matters in a relationship.

Alakija, a devout Christian and founder of the Rose of Sharon Foundation, has invited singles to her upcoming conference, where they will have the opportunity to learn about God’s true purpose in marriage and how to identify green flags or the red flags of a healthy relationship.

With her extensive experience guiding young people toward building healthy relationships, Alakija emphasized the importance of reflecting on what one truly values in a partner and looking for potential red flags that could signal trouble down the road.

Background on Alakija

Alakija gained recognition for her success in the oil and gas industry after starting her career as a secretary at a Nigerian merchant bank in the 1970s. In 1993, she received an allocation of an oil prospecting license from the Nigerian government, which she used to establish Famfa Oil, a Nigerian oil company. Famfa Oil is now one of the largest oil companies in Nigeria, and Alakija is currently the vice-chairman of the company’s board of directors.

Aside from her business success, Alakija is also an active philanthropist and has donated millions of dollars to various charitable causes in Nigeria. In 2008, she founded The Rose of Sharon Foundation, which provides financial and educational support to widows and orphans in Nigeria. She has also donated generously to education and healthcare initiatives in the country.

Alakija is widely recognized for her business and philanthropic achievements, having received numerous awards and recognitions, both domestically and internationally. She is also a devout Christian and has married her husband, Modupe Alakija, for over 40 years.
