President Bola Tinubu’s government continues to prioritize ensuring that there is enough food in Nigeria, according to Joseph Utsev, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation.
While on an evaluation visit to the Middle Ogun Irrigation Project’s Pivot Irrigation Unit’s solarization in Iseyin, Oyo State, on Wednesday, Utsev made this statement.
According to Utsev, the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda aligns with the mandate of producing food, generating employment, and strengthening the nation’s economy.
The minister emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to providing the facilities that would increase food productivity, adding that efforts to promote irrigation farming included the Middle Ogun Irrigation Unit’s ongoing solarization and its connection to the national electrical grid.
Utsev said:
“The Middle Ogun Irrigation project started in 1990, and the aim of the project was to put about 12,000 hectares of land into production.
“When the project started, it was to use diesel for its power generating plants but now we are changing the diesel method of powering our irrigation facilities to solar and the national grid power because of the high cost of diesel and other reasons.”
According to Utsev, the solarization project had reached an 85% completion level, while the center’s link to the national grid was 95% complete.
