Wayne Swinny, a founding member and guitarist of the hard rock band Saliva, has died at the age of 59 after suffering a brain haemorrhage. The band’s representative announced the sad news on Wednesday, March 22. He stated that Swinny passed away that afternoon while on tour.
Just hours before his passing, Saliva had announced that Swinny was in the hospital’s ICU following a medical emergency.
Bobby Amaru, Saliva’s current lead singer, also shared his memories of Swinny. He describes him as the “older brother” he never had. He said that he was not sure how to feel right now and his heart ached for Wayne’s family, friends, and his daughter, Nikki. Amaru went on to say that he learned so much from Swinny and that they had a blast together.
Saliva was formed in 1996 with Wayne Swinny, singer Josey Scott, guitarist Chris Dabaldo, bassist Dave Novotny, and drummer Paul Crosby. The band released a self-titled album in 1997, followed by its major label debut in March 2001 with “Every Six Seconds.” This album was Grammy-nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2002.
The news of Swinny’s death has left Saliva and their fans in complete shock and heartbreak. Swinny’s wife has described him as the musical soulmate of the original lead singer, Josey Scott. She also commended him for his great sense of humour. Wayne Swinny’s legacy will live on through his music, and his fans and loved ones will cherish his memory forever.
