The Ganye constituency of Adamawa State is preparing a peaceful protest scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 2025, to demand a by-election for their vacant seat in the State House of Assembly.
The seat became vacant over a year ago following the death of their representative, Abdulmalik Jauro Musa, who passed away on May 24, 2024.
In a notice issued by Abdulrahman Njidda, the protest rally will reflect the community’s disappointment with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) failure to hold a by-election.
The organisers are urging patriotic citizens of Ganye to join them as part of their Democracy Day commemoration. “Notice is hereby given that some concerned citizens of Ganye intend to commemorate the upcoming Democracy Day by staging a peaceful protest against INEC’s inability to conduct a bye‑election to fill the vacant seat…”
Participants are to assemble at the Ganye Local Council roundabout at 6 a.m. and proceed in procession to Atiku Junction by 7 a.m.
They will then continue onward to the INEC office by 8 a.m. to submit a letter presenting their grievances. The rally is billed as peaceful, with strict instructions against any form of misconduct, and security personnel will be on hand to ensure the protest remains orderly.
Residents of Ganye argue that since the passing of Musa, their constituency has been deprived of a voice in the state legislature. They view the delayed by-election as a violation of their democratic rights. By staging this peaceful demonstration on Democracy Day, they hope to draw attention to their exclusion and place pressure on INEC and state authorities to expedite the electoral process.
