Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang announced on Sunday that the state’s Mangu Local Government Area curfew, imposed in January, will be lifted.
The governor issued a 24-hour curfew in the Mangu LGA after bandits attacked the Pushit and Sabon-Gari villages and murdered 13 people.
Several people were hurt, and numerous homes were destroyed during the incident.
To prevent retaliation and escalation of the crisis, the governor issued a curfew.
Mutfwang announced the lifting of the curfew on Sunday in a statement issued by his Director of Press and Public, Gyang Bere. The decision was made after consultation with the State Security Council and the restoration of normality in the area.
He explained that the gesture would allow them to engage in agricultural and commercial pursuits.
The statement encouraged community leaders of all faiths and ethnicities to continue strategic discussions to build trust, encourage tolerance, and promote greater understanding among the people.
While asking Mangu Local Government Area inhabitants to embrace peace, and togetherness, and be their brother’s keepers, the governor stated that his government will stay fair and just to everyone.
The statement read:
“He expressed gratitude for the cooperation and support received so far and urged the community to maintain their collaboration with the security agencies to ensure the complete restoration of peace and order in the Local Government Area.
“Governor Mutfwang equally expressed deep gratitude to all the security agencies in the state and beyond for their sacrifices and tireless efforts towards addressing the issues and urged them to continue monitoring and maintaining law and order across the 17 local government areas.”
