Governor Bassey Otu has begun the construction of the Adiabo-Ikoneto Road in Odukpani LGA of Cross River State, which was started but abandoned by the late General Sani Abacha’s military administration 30 years ago.
This comes after Governor Bassey Otu held a ground-breaking ceremony for the 11-kilometer road project yesterday.
Otu stated that the road has been a source of anguish since construction on it was halted and it looked that it would never be completed; little did he realise that he would be the one to finish it.
The governor emphasised that once finished, the Adiabo-Ikoneto Road will promote inter-city growth.
He highlighted that the route will provide easier access to Creek Town route in the Odukpani section of the state.
Otu challenged Adiabo-Ikoneto residents with upholding the law and supporting the initiative.
Pius Ankpo, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, stated that the project, which would include the building of three bridges across marshy regions, will begin with a 4.5-kilometer first phase to ensure proper resource management.
The Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, attended the flag-off event.
