Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has publicly stated that he has no intentions of pursuing the office of vice president, putting to rest growing speculation about his potential involvement in national politics.
The governor made his position clear during a press briefing in Katsina, where he emphasized his commitment to serving his state rather than seeking higher office.
Radda explained that his current focus remains on addressing Katsina’s security challenges and implementing development programs for the people. “My priority is the well-being of Katsina State,” he said. “I am not interested in becoming vice president or any other political position outside my current role. My work here is far from finished.”
The governor’s statement comes amid increasing political discussions about potential running mates for the 2027 presidential election. Some political analysts had previously suggested Radda as a possible vice presidential candidate due to his growing influence in the Northwest region and his administration’s efforts in combating banditry.
Radda, however, dismissed these speculations, reaffirming his dedication to governance in Katsina. He urged supporters and political stakeholders to concentrate on supporting his state-level initiatives rather than national ambitions.
Political observers note that Radda’s stance may strengthen his reputation as a leader focused on grassroots development rather than personal political advancement. As insecurity and economic challenges persist in Northern Nigeria, his decision to remain committed to Katsina could influence other governors to prioritize state governance over national political aspirations.
