Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, has urged the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to examine its existing fiscal and monetary policies, claiming they are ineffective.

This appeal was made by the governor during Thursday’s Nigeria Development Update event in Abuja.

Mohammed stressed the urgent need for reform because of the nation’s increasing suffering and asked the administration to avoid taking a dogmatic stance.

The governor of Bauchi emphasized the suffering of common Nigerians and cautioned that the country is in a precarious state due to hunger and economic hardship. He disclosed that even those in his role are at risk of being lynched by irate public.

Governor Mohammed of Bauchi also urged the federal government to create more efficient economic strategies, emphasizing that the amount of money being received now is not enough to alleviate the pervasive hunger.

The governor said:

“When the reforms started, the sub-nationals supported the President. But now, the macroeconomic policies causing inflation need to be reconsidered. There is hunger, people are suffering, and Nigerians are not benefitting from these reforms.

“What are you doing to reduce hunger? We must help the people cope.

“The purchasing power of the people has drastically diminished.

“My brother Cardoso (CBN governor), these policies are not working. They need to be reviewed. Let’s not resort to blackmail.”
