I Was Betrayed By Many During 2015 Re-election Bid — Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has publicly stated that he was the victim of widespread betrayal during his unsuccessful campaign for re-election in 2015.

He made these remarks in Benin, the capital of Edo State, while speaking at the 70th birthday celebration of Chief Mike Aiyegbeni Oghiadomhe, his former Chief of Staff.

Reflecting on the nature of political alliances, Jonathan characterised Nigerian politics as being fundamentally defined by betrayals.

He expressed his personal disappointment with the conduct of individuals during the heated 2015 electoral period, noting that it was difficult to find loyal figures who remained consistent in their support.

Jonathan specifically pointed to the challenges of finding someone who would maintain the same position throughout the day, implying that many of his supposed allies altered their stances for political convenience.

In contrast, he praised the celebrant, Chief Oghiadomhe, as one of his few steadfast and reliable friends who would willingly take significant risks on his behalf. Oghiadomhe had served as Jonathan’s Chief of Staff from 2010 until 2014.

This commentary from the former president emerges amidst ongoing speculation within political circles regarding his potential return to the national stage.

There has been recent and widespread conjecture that Jonathan may choose to contest the 2027 presidential election under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Despite the growing rumours, the former president has not officially confirmed any intention to run for office again.
