I’ll leave in peace – Federal Lawmaker Kofa tells NNPP Following Expulsion

Hours after his expulsion by the Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), federal lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa has formally announced his departure from the party.

In a personally signed statement released on Saturday, Kofa described his removal as a “rude shock” but stated he has chosen to accept the decision “in good faith.” He urged the party to allow him to depart peacefully and without further contention.

Kofa, who represents the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, defended his recent actions which led to the expulsion.

The party had accused him of anti-party activities following a television interview, a charge he firmly denied. He insisted that nothing he said during the interview constituted anti-party activity and that his comments were in line with the party’s core principles that allow for dissenting views. He emphatically stated that he stands by all the statements he made.

The lawmaker also strongly criticized the procedure leading to his expulsion, highlighting a significant lack of due process. He noted that no invitation was extended to him by any organ of the party to explain himself or defend against the allegations. This, he argued, was a clear neglect of the principle of fair hearing and the very justice the NNPP demands from others.

Addressing the additional allegation of failing to meet his financial obligations, Kofa denied ever refusing to pay any dues.

He expressed his willingness to settle any outstanding amounts, respectfully requesting that the party send him an invoice for prompt payment and suggesting that there was no need for legal action over the matter.

Despite the acrimonious fallout, Kofa expressed gratitude for the support he received during his time with the NNPP.

He concluded his statement with an appeal for civility, asking the party to avoid personal attacks and abuses as they part ways, and reaffirming his belief that personal relationships can continue irrespective of political affiliation.
