I’m not tied to anybody” – Atiku’s Ex-spokesman Sowunmi

Segun Sowunmi, the former spokesman for Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign, has made it clear that he remains an independent political actor despite his previous affiliation with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate.

In a recent interview, Sowunmi emphasised that his political decisions and opinions are not influenced by any individual or group.

Sowunmi, known for his vocal stance on national issues, stated that his loyalty lies with Nigeria’s development rather than any particular politician.

He explained that while he had previously worked closely with Atiku, his current engagements and future political moves would be based on principle rather than blind allegiance.

“I am not tied to anybody,” he declared, stressing the importance of maintaining intellectual and political independence in a rapidly evolving democracy.

The former PDP chieftain also used the opportunity to reflect on the state of Nigerian politics, calling for more issue-based discussions rather than personality-driven campaigns.

He urged political actors to prioritise policies that address the country’s challenges, including insecurity, economic instability, and unemployment.

Sowunmi’s remarks come amid speculation about his next political move, with some observers suggesting he may be considering new alliances or even a different political platform.

Political analysts have interpreted Sowunmi’s statements as indicative of broader shifts within Nigeria’s opposition politics, where key figures are reassessing their positions ahead of future elections.

While he did not rule out future collaborations with Atiku or other leaders, Sowunmi maintained that any such engagements would be based on shared values and a common vision for Nigeria’s progress.
