The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the launch of a contactless passport application system to streamline passport acquisition and renewal for Nigerians in Europe.
According to a statement from the NIS Public Relations Officer, Mr. Akinsola Akinlabi, the initiative will be rolled out on February 7, 2025.
Immigration Comptroller General, Kemi Nandap, confirmed that the United Kingdom (UK) and Ireland would be the first beneficiaries of this system in Europe.
This follows the successful launch of the contactless application system in Canada on November 5, 2024. The European rollout marks the second phase of the service’s efforts to enhance passport processing for Nigerians living abroad.
The contactless application, available via the NIS Mobile app on Google Play Store, enables Nigerians to renew their passports without the need to visit a passport center for biometric enrollment.
This digital solution aims to reduce the burden of travel and long waits for Nigerians seeking passport renewals, offering a more convenient and efficient process.
Nandap emphasized the service’s commitment to providing innovative and reliable solutions for Nigerians globally.
She assured that the Immigration Service remains focused on improving service delivery to meet the needs of Nigerians, regardless of their location.
