President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said in his 63rd Independence Anniversary address on Sunday that monetary policy should be for the benefit of all, not only the privileged.

According to Tinubu, this would be achievable due to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s ongoing comprehensive house cleaning.

In addition, the President stated that the findings of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s investigation into the previous lapse and how to prevent similar incidents will be released soon.

Tinubu told Nigerians in his 15-minute statement that the country is improving despite difficult economic problems.

Tinubu promised Nigerians that his administration was doing all possible to alleviate the strain created by the elimination of gasoline subsidies.

“I pledged a thorough house cleaning of the den of malfeasance the CBN had become. That housecleaning is well underway.

“A new leadership for the Central Bank has been constituted. Also, my special investigator will soon present his findings on past lapses and how to prevent similar reoccurrences.

“Henceforth, monetary policy shall be for the benefit of all and not the exclusive province of the powerful and wealthy”, he stated.

Tinubu appointed Jim Obazee, a special investigator, to oversee an investigation into CBN in July.
