23 suspected Internet fraudsters, known as “Yahoo Yahoo boys,” were arrested by Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) Sokoto Command agents after a raid on the Bafarawa Estate.
The Bafarawa Estate and the Kalkalawa area of Sokoto State were both raided, according to a source from the EFCC’s zonal office in Sokoto, after intelligence-driven observation and close monitoring revealed that the young men were living beyond their means and had no legitimate source of income.
In response, the source claims, agents of the commission swooped in and detained them while inquiries were ongoing.
People detained include Joy Ofem, Azeez .o. Naimot, Ibrahim Amadu, Aigbekan Daniel, Adedayo Michael, Imran Mubaraq and Oliyide Habeeblah, Wasiu Lukman Adekunle, Musa Abdulaziz, Abdullahi Ibrahim, Adejoh Nebiu Muhammad, Ibrahim Mubarak, Ahmed Ibrahim Abdullahi, Abdullahi Sanusi Adejoh and Umar Idris, Muhammad Nuhu, Faisal Ahmed, Aliyu Ismail, Elijah Adebayo, Abubakar Bashir, Sakariya Ibrahim, Balogun Abdulayyan as well as Buni Husaini.
Among the things found are a Red Corolla Sport 2009, a White Corolla 2015, 16 different laptops, one Generator, 30 different phones and two MTN Routers.
However, the insider disclosed that they would be prosecuted in court as soon as the investigations were over.
