Assistant Inspector General of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu, in charge of Zone 9 Umuahia, has reported a noticeable decline in the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) across the Southeast region of Nigeria.
He made this statement during an official visit to the Ebonyi State Police Command in Abakaliki.
AIG Uzuegbu attributed the decline to sustained security operations and strengthened cooperation between security agencies and local communities.
He highlighted the effectiveness of joint efforts in suppressing violent and separatist activities, which he believes are gradually losing their influence in the region.
He praised the officers serving in the zone for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication to duty, especially in challenging areas.
He encouraged them to remain vigilant and to continue engaging communities positively to maintain peace and security.
Uzuegbu also emphasised the importance of ongoing support from residents, noting that public trust and cooperation have been crucial in achieving progress.
He assured that the police would not relent in their commitment to preserving law and order throughout the region.
The AIG’s assessment reflects broader efforts by the Nigerian security forces to reduce unrest linked to IPOB and other separatist groups.
Uzuegbu comments signal growing optimism among law enforcement authorities about improved stability and safety in the Southeast.
