The National Films and Videos Censors Board, or NFVCB, has cautioned that distributing music videos, sketches, and films without proper categorization is an offence.

The NFVCB’s classification system gives age ratings and content advisories to audiovisual materials, allowing families to make educated watching decisions while safeguarding children from inappropriate material.

Shaibu Husseini, Director General of the NFVCB, previously said in an interview with the journalists that the board’s categorization rules will be expanded to cover music videos and skits.

Husseini sent a statement to journalists on Wednesday warning content providers against distributing unclassified data.

He said:

“It is also an offence to distribute or exhibit any film or video content, musical videos and skits on any platform without recourse to the National Film and Video Censors Board for classification.

“We are collaborating with relevant security agencies to track any individuals and production companies involved to make sure they face the full wrath of the law.”

The board also denounced the marketing and dissemination of same-sex propaganda on the internet, pointing out that it was unlawful to openly display same-sex relationships in Nigeria.
