President Donald Trump declared that it is time for the United States to prosper, as he introduced the implementation of global reciprocal tariffs.
In a statement made on Wednesday, Trump emphasized that these tariffs would bring back jobs and factories, heralding a “golden age” for the country.
Trump confirmed that a 25 percent tariff on automobile imports would take effect at midnight on Wednesday.
He referred to this day as a significant moment in American history, calling it the “Declaration of Economic Independence.”
Trump explained that for years, hard-working American citizens were sidelined while other nations grew richer and more powerful.
However, with the new tariffs, he assured that it was now America’s turn to prosper.
The president also stated that U.S. companies would no longer be allowed to operate in other countries under these new policies.
As part of the announcement, Trump revealed the imposition of a 25 percent tariff on all foreign-made automobiles, effective immediately.
In response to the tariffs, China had recently imposed its own restrictions, preventing Chinese companies from investing in the U.S., marking a reciprocal action against Trump’s administration.
This came shortly after Trump had announced the new automobile reciprocal tariffs, which have now officially begun.
