Henri Konan Bedie, the former President of the Ivory Coast, is dead.
Badie, who dominated West African politics for four decades, died on Tuesday at the age of 89, a close cousin told Reuters.
Bedie was president from 1993 until his demise in 1999.
According to NAN, it remains unclear how Bedie died.
His representative could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
He was long known – and in some ways loathed – for his role in popularising the concept of “ivoirite,” or Ivorian identity.
