At least 14,000 candidates within 24 hours, have applied for temporary teaching jobs in Jigawa State.
Professor Haruna Musa, Chairman of the Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board, said this at the official presentation of permanent appointment letters to 3,233 candidates at the Aminu Kano Triangle in Dutse, the state capital.
He informed them that after two years as temporary instructors, they were offered permanent and pensionable employment after passing a series of exams and training.
He stated:
“All the 3,233 teachers were recruited based on merit and we are assured that all of them are capable and will give sound knowledge to our children.”
Prof. Musa indicated that the board would continue to watch them and would not hesitate to fire anyone who violates the employment regulations outlined in the offer of employment.
He also stated that the board has opened its portal for the recruitment of an additional 3,000 temporary J-Teach instructors, intending to close the teacher gap that Jigawa has been dealing with for years.
According to him, “To my amazement, within 48 hours of activating the site, no fewer than 14, 000 individuals applied for the temporary teaching position. I’m not sure how many candidates will apply before the deadline.”
Speaking at the event, Governor Umar Namadi stated that widespread employment was part of his strategy for successfully implementing his 12-point programme.
He said that no government strategy can be properly and successfully executed without adequate training and skilled personnel.
