Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has officially signed the Hisba Board Establishment Bill into law, granting legal authority to the religious police body to operate in the state.

The signing ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Government House Council Chambers in Dutse, the state capital.

Governor Namadi explained that the legislative process, which began eight months ago, was finalised to provide the Hisba Board with the necessary legal framework to function effectively.

“We have signed into law the Hisba Bill, which establishes the Hisba Board as an official institution in Jigawa State,” he stated. The governor expressed optimism that the board’s operations would promote social order and moral discipline across the state.

The Hisba Board, which operates under Islamic principles, is tasked with enforcing moral codes, preventing vice, and encouraging virtuous behaviour in alignment with Sharia law.

Governor Namadi urged the board’s personnel to carry out their duties with fairness, dedication, and the fear of Allah, emphasising the importance of justice and ethical conduct in their operations.

The governor also commended the Hisba Board Establishment Committee for their dedication, hard work, and sacrifices throughout the legislative process. The new law is expected to strengthen the board’s role in maintaining societal values and addressing moral concerns in Jigawa State.

The establishment of the Hisba Board reflects the state government’s commitment to upholding Islamic principles and ensuring social harmony.

Similar bodies exist in other northern Nigerian states, where they work alongside conventional law enforcement agencies to promote religious and ethical compliance. With this legal backing, the Jigawa State Hisba Board is now empowered to operate as a formal institution in maintaining public morality and order.
