The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has announced the suspension of its indefinite nationwide strike, which began on June 1, 2025.

The union called off the industrial action following successful negotiations with key stakeholders, including the Chief Justice of Nigeria and federal government representatives.

The strike was launched in response to the government’s failure to meet several longstanding demands. These included the payment of a five-month wage award, the implementation of the newly proposed national minimum wage of ₦70,000, and the enforcement of a 25 to 35 percent salary increment for public service workers under the consolidated salary structure.

After a series of meetings, JUSUN leadership agreed to a one-month window for the federal government to address their demands.

During this period, the government is expected to release the necessary funds to the judiciary to fulfil the agreed terms. JUSUN stated that the implementation of the demands must begin as soon as the funds are made available.

The union acknowledged the role played by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, in brokering a resolution, and expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the dialogue. As a result of the agreement, JUSUN has instructed its members to return to work starting Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

JUSUN emphasised that it will continue to monitor the situation closely. If the government fails to act within the agreed timeframe, the union warned that it would not hesitate to resume industrial action.

The suspension of the strike brings temporary relief to the judicial sector, which had been experiencing disruptions due to the union’s protest.
