The National Emergency Management Agency has begun distribution of material aid to 8,757 homes impacted by the flood disaster in Kaduna State in 2022 on Saturday.

During the distribution in Kaduna, the agency’s director-general, Mr Mustapha Ahmed, stated that the action fell under the Special National Economic and Livelihood Emergency Intervention.

The state team supervisor of SNELEI, Ms Ngozi Echeazu, spoke on behalf of Ahmed, who indicated that the handout was meant to help the state’s afflicted households.

He classified the products as both food and non-food items, including blankets, mats, mosquito nets, detergents, and things like grains, beans, and sorghum.

Sewing machines, grinding mills, water pumps for farmers working in the dry season, sprayers, fertilisers, herbicides, and seedlings are some more non-food goods.

He explained that, in the midst of an economic downturn, agricultural materials were distributed to farmers in order to encourage crop production, keep them on the land, and protect national food security.

The DG further stated that livelihood assistance was given to artisans in order to assist them in expanding their businesses and the economy.

The state’s deputy governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, praised the Federal Government for the gesture.

Balarabe, who was represented by Mr James Kanyip, Deputy Chief of Staff to Gov. Uba Sani, Office of the Deputy Governor, said the items will help the recipients rebuild their lives.

She also counselled the recipients against selling the products, which she claimed were intended to help them out of poverty and give them more financial independence.

The deputy governor also urged the people in charge of distributing the aid supplies to make sure that only the vulnerable and targeted people received the supplies.

Usman Mazabu, executive secretary of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, also expressed gratitude to the federal government for authorising the victims’ relief aid.

Muazu gave his word that NEMA, SEMA, community leaders, and other pertinent stakeholders would distribute the relief supplies to the afflicted people in a transparent manner.
