The Kaduna State Government has dismissed claims of contract fraud and administrative irregularities in the planned reconstruction of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium. Commissioner for Sports Development, Prof. Benjamin Kumai Gugong, described the allegations as baseless and an attempt to mislead the public.

Speaking on Sunday, Gugong clarified that the federal government handed over the stadium to the state earlier this year in a deteriorated state.

This prompted the ministry to seek Governor Uba Sani’s approval for a comprehensive upgrade to meet the standards of FIFA, CAF, and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

He emphasised that the procurement process, approved in May 2025, strictly followed the Kaduna State Public Procurement Authority (KADPPA) laws.

The commissioner rejected insinuations that the ministry was excluded from the contract award process, maintaining that all procedures were transparent and legally compliant.

He stated that the renovation project would position Kaduna as a prime sports hub, capable of hosting international tournaments while generating employment and stimulating economic growth.

Gugong assured stakeholders that the state government remains committed to due process and accountability in all projects. He expressed confidence that the upgraded Ahmadu Bello stadium would enhance sports development in Kaduna and attract major sporting events to the state.

The government urged the public to disregard misinformation and support efforts to deliver a world-class sports facility.
