The Federal High Court in Kano has barred Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from destroying any further structures or property in the state.

Justice S.A. Amobeda issued the ruling in response to an ex parte application filed before him by a lawyer and Kano native, Saminu Muhammad.

The court in its judgment issued on Friday barred the governor and his agents from proceeding with the planned destruction along BUK Road, which included homes at Nos. 41 and 43 Salanta.

The judge exercised restraint on “the respondents by themselves, agents, servants or proxies whatsoever called. Or doing any other act in respect of the applicant’s property, No. 41 and 43 situated at Salanta, along BUK road, Kano, covered by Certificate of Occupancy, No. KNMLO8228 and Certificate of Occupancy No. KNMLO8229, pending the hearing and determination of the originating motion.”

The judge directed that the order be served to the respondents.

The Kano State Governor, the Kano State Attorney General, and the Kano State Solicitor General. The Kano State Government and the Kano State Bureau For Land Management are listed as respondents in the lawsuit.

Other organizations include the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority. The Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, the Commissioner of Police, the Commandant General. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and others.

The court postponed the case to July 10 for further proceedings.
