Kano State Police Command has reiterated its ban on all durbar-related activities during the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, citing unresolved security threats. This decision follows similar restrictions during the recent Eid-el-Fitr, where intelligence reports indicated plans by some individuals to use the durbar as an avenue to instigate unrest and threaten public peace.
In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police emphasised that the prohibition remains in place and will be fully enforced throughout the festive period. The command noted that the security concerns which informed the earlier restrictions still persist and have not yet been fully addressed.
To ensure a peaceful celebration, the police have outlined several precautionary measures. These include a ban on horse or animal riding events, car racing, dangerous driving, the possession or display of firearms, and carrying any object that could raise suspicion. Residents, especially parents and community leaders, have been urged to caution their children and wards against engaging in activities that could threaten public order.
The police command reassured citizens that adequate security personnel and resources have been deployed across the state to maintain law and order. They also encouraged the public to use the Eid-el-Kabir celebration as a time for reflection, unity, and prayer, particularly in remembrance of the athletes from Kano who recently lost their lives in a tragic road accident while returning from the National Sports Festival.
