Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has stated that he is prepared to utilise all legal measures to recover nearly N5.4 billion in deducted monthly pension payments that were not remitted by the Abdullahi Ganduje government.

The governor stated that it is unacceptable for anybody to take employees’ monthly pension contributions without remitting the amounts.

Speaking at the start of the distribution of N5 billion gratuities to 4000 retirees, Yusuf stated that pension payments are a right, not a privilege.

The governor encouraged the retirees to file a petition with the State administration, requesting an inquiry into the withdrawal of their monthly pension contributions.

He promised that his dictatorship would ensure that their money was retrieved.

He said:

“The debacle we are in now is that all the money deducted from your monthly pension payments, amounting to over N5.4 billion, is that all the money was not remitted to the state treasury rather it was taken to a personal accounts, but we are determined to get them back.”

Yusuf further stated that his administration inherited N43 billion in pension arrears from the Gabduje regime.
