Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has refuted claims that his administration has neglected the welfare of teachers, emphasizing his government’s significant investments in education.

Speaking on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi during a meeting with 1,125 All Progressives Congress (APC) delegates from 225 wards across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas, the governor announced the renovation and construction of 1,954 schools within the first 20 months of his administration.

Breaking down the figures, Governor Idris stated that 1,618 schools were renovated, while 336 new ones were constructed. He underscored his administration’s commitment to improving education infrastructure, ensuring conducive learning environments for students across the state.

Addressing accusations of neglecting Teachers, Governor Idris reiterated that his government has prioritized the welfare of teachers.

“The people of Kebbi State should disregard any insinuations that I have neglected teachers. My administration has implemented the N18,000, N30,000, and N70,000 minimum wages for teachers and ensured that no teacher is owed salaries or emoluments,” he said.

He further highlighted a key policy reform under his administration, which increased the retirement age for teachers to 65 years or 40 years of service, an initiative that distinguishes Kebbi State from many others.

Governor Idris urged the people of Kebbi to continue supporting his government’s efforts to enhance education and other critical sectors.

“We are committed to ensuring that education in Kebbi State reaches new heights. Our focus remains on creating a brighter future for our children and improving the livelihoods of our teachers,” he concluded.
