Klopp: I’m not afraid of being sacked

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed he is not afraid of being sacked by the club.

Within the space of several hours on Sunday, both Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter lost their jobs at Leicester City and Chelsea respectively. Potter became the 12th Premier League coach to leave his role in the current campaign, with Tottenham Hotspur also parting ways with Antonio Conte during the international break.

The German says he is aware he remains as Liverpool manager because of his past achievements with the club, rather than their form this season.

Liverpool lost their eighth away league defeat this season – with their current form cause enough for some clubs to pull the plug on their manager.

“I’m not afraid [of the sack], no. There’s no need for being afraid, I need to deliver. I am not here as a mural on house walls, I am here to deliver,” Klopp said during his pre-game press conference.

“If this was my first season, that would be slightly different. We have smart owners who know about the situation, but that doesn’t mean anything else.”

But Klopp remains in his job and seemingly rather safely too. Despite Liverpool sitting eighth in the Premier League table, he recognizes that it is largely due to his previous successes – a fact he does not enjoy.

Liverpool will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
