Ahmed Usman Ododo, Governor of Kogi State, signed six bills into law Thursday.
The bills include the Kogi State Local Government Service Commission Law 2014 and other matters connected therewith, 2024; the Kogi State Scholarship Board Edict, 1998 and other matters connected therewith, 2024; and the Law to establish the Kogi State Electricity Market and the Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Laws enacted in 2024 include the Kogi State Anti-Corruption Agency, the Kogi State Commodity Exchange, Export Promotion and Market Development Agency, and the Kogi State Information Technology Development Agency.
Speaking immediately after signing the legislation into law, Ododo urged the people of Kogi State to accept the new laws in order to take the state ahead.
The governor described the new legislation as “people’s laws” and emphasised that his assent to the measures was consistent with his vow to lead with openness, accountability, and the fear of God.
The governor stated that the new set of laws will act as a spark for Kogi State’s rapid social and economic growth since they address crucial parts of people’s lives.
Ododo said:
“These laws combined together can be referred to as the people’s Acts. All the laws have direct bearing on the lives of our people and this the reason we are here.
“Let it be known that under my administration, nobody is above the law.
“This is in line with my promise to lead with the fear of God and to ensure that our resources work for the people of the state.”
The governor urged the citizens of the state, particularly those in positions of responsibility, to embrace the new legislation and get acquainted with their contents.
