Nigerian Army troops freed 10 people abducted while travelling from Calabar to Abuja aboard a Peace Mass Transit Bus.
The travellers were rescued in Kogi on Monday.
Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, stated in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to Nwachukwu, the rescue effort took place at Ogugu Community, which is located along Enugu-Kogi Road in the state’s Olamaboro Local Government Area.
He stated that the forces were quickly mobilised to the location of the kidnapping event in response to a distress call, where the kidnappers had demobilised the bus, seized the passengers, and relocated them to the neighbouring Ette Forest.
According to him, the brave warriors carefully hunted down and engaged the armed group in a firefight, forcing them to release their captives.
“The swift and decisive action of the troops led to the successful rescue of the passengers,” he said.
Nwachukwu further stated that army forces stormed IPOB/ESN enclaves in Egbuoma/Osiam, Oguta Local Government Area, Imo, on Monday.
He stated that the operation resulted in the neutralisation of one terrorist and the recovery of a Mercedes Benz 350 4matic from their camp.
According to an Army official, troops in Nasarawa responded to a distress call on Monday and stopped an attack on Katakpa village in the state’s Toto Local Government Area.
He said that an armed organisation known as the Bassa militia group had stormed the village and destroyed the Sarkin Katakpa.
He said that in response to a distress call, the soldiers launched a combat patrol into the neighbourhood and drove off the assailants.
“During the incident, troops recovered two AK 47 Rifles, two AK 47 Magazines, two G3 Rifles, two G3 Rifle Magazines, 41 Cartridges of 39mm ball special ammunition and 45 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
“Troops have dominated the general area and continued further exploits to nab the assailants.
“The Nigerian army remains committed to ensuring safety and security of citizens and will continue to conduct operations to sanitise troubled areas and maintain peace and stability in the country,” he added.
