Segun Abiodun Oni, a Major in the Nigerian Army from Kwara State, was among the officers and nearly 20 troops killed in an ambush during a military operation in Niger State.
On August 13, 2023, the late Major Oni led troops on a military operation to drive out outlaws in the region, which resulted in a horrific clash.
Late Oni served as Platoon Commander 72 Special Forces Battalion, Company Second in Command, Armed Forces Special Forces Battalion, and Defence Headquarters Special Operations Forces Battalion.
He attended military schools in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States, Belarus, and South Africa.
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq expressed his condolences to the residents of Eruku in Ekiti Local Government of the State, as well as the Nigerian Army, in his condolence letter.
He described the death as a significant loss for the country as a whole and for Kwara State in particular.
