The Kwara State Executive Council has approved a draught amended 2023 budget of N239,084,199,757.00 for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to present to the State House of Assembly, with capital expenditures accounting for almost 50.2% of the total while recurring expenses fell to 49.8%.
The updated budget (N50,238,596,196.00) is 27% more than the previously authorised 2023 budget by the House.
This was said in a statement made on Sunday by Bola Olukoju, the Communications Commissioner.
The approval came after a submission from the Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Lafia Sabi, who stated that a service-wide and bottom-up process for the revised budget started in June 2023 — followed by careful deliberations and reviews of submissions from the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of the Government by the Central Budget Committee (CBC).
“The pertinent factor governing the selection of projects for execution in the remaining part of the year is the emphasis placed on capital projects that are critical to stimulating the economic activities in the state for inclusive growth and development.”
Sabi also informed the council that particular efforts have been taken to increase economic activity and raise the level of living for the populace.
Following a drawn-out bidding procedure involving open tendering in accordance with applicable regulations, the cabinet approved Star Sewing Machine Limited, an international company, to run the State’s Garment Factory among other government activities.
The council meeting, which was held on Friday night, was presided over by the governor. All of the commissioners were present, as well as the deputy governor, Kayode Alabi, and the secretary to the state government, Alhaji AbdulKadir Mahe.
