On Sunday, a bus crashed into the Lagos-Ibadan highway and caught fire, killing seven people, including two children.
More than 14 other passengers were said to have been injured in an accident at the OPIC axis on the Lagos-Ibadan highway.
Federal Traffic Safety Corps spokesman, Ogun State Command, Florence Okupe, confirmed the accident in the state capital, Abeokuta.
Okupe reported that the lone accident involving a Mazda bus (license plate BDG993YG) occurred around 10:45 am on Sunday.
She added that the crash involved 22 people, including seven men, eight women, four male and three female children, resulting in 7 fatalities and 14 injuries.
She blamed the crash on “excessive speed and brake failure, which led to a loss of control.”
Okpe explained that the vehicle went up in flames after it crashed and burnt some occupants to death.
They took injured victims to Lagos State Accident Emergency Centre, Ojota. They also deposited the corpses at the morgue located in Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu. FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, urged routine vehicle maintenance for commercial and private vehicles.
