The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with EbonyLife Media, has educated 177 filmmakers via the Lagos Creative Industry Initiative.
The trainees, who are the ninth batch and the second intake in 2023, were certified during a graduation ceremony held recently at EbonyLife Place on Victoria Island.
After graduation from the three-month intense course, the students screened four short films for their project work.
Toyin Ogunlano, Director of Administration and Human Resources, Ministry of Tourism, and Chairman of the Creative Industry project, stated that the state government was using the project to eliminate young unemployment.
She stated, “I feel elated, first, because Lagos State is the only state where this kind of opportunity for youths is encouraged, and I am so glad to be a part of it.
“At least 3,950 youths have been trained in this entertainment initiative and we hope that more of them will benefit from it.
“Of course, the focus is to create opportunities for our youths, especially to curb unemployment in society.”
Ogunlana said that as part of the Governor’s all-inclusive agenda, the programme will include those with needs in their next intake.
“Also, in the next set, we will include those living with disabilities. We are not leaving anyone, any tribe out.
“I urge the graduands to continue to soar. And in the course of achieving their dream in the industry, they can access the state government grant of N400m, once they are found eligible after verification by the Lagos State Film Fund Committee.”
