The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has started a manhunt for Sowunmi Kayode, a known drug dealer from Lekki, Lagos, who is reportedly on the run after running over an NDLEA officer with his luxury vehicle while trying to flee from capture during a search of his home last weekend.
Following solid information that the sought drug dealer was distributing illegal substances out of his home, anti-narcotics agents from the NDLEA raided his household on Friday, August 18, at 2/3 Adetola Ayeni Close, Lekki, Lagos, for a search and potential arrest.
The news was announced by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Wednesday.
Babafemi stated:
“Although he was not in the house when operatives got into his compound, he however returned while a search of his apartment was ongoing. In a dramatic twist, as soon as he drove into the premises and sighted NDLEA officers, he engaged his car in reverse gear, knocked down one of the officers and pulled down his gate before plunging the vehicle into the fence of the opposite compound.
“The force of his car’s speed also pulled down the concrete wall of his neighbour’s compound and from there he dived out of the vehicle to escape. A thorough search of his apartment however led to the recovery of 10.5 kilograms of Loud, while the operative knocked down suffered multiple injuries all over his body and compound fracture on his two legs, for which he is currently on hospital admission for treatment.”
The Chairman of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (ret. ), has ordered the deployment of the agency’s proper operational assets to smoke out the sought suspect from his hiding place in response to the regrettable development.
Marwa also granted appropriate medical treatment for the injured officer’s quick return to his feet.
