Vice President Kassim Shettima has said that Nigeria would be completely operational until the South-East performs ideally in industrialization with enough electricity supply.
He associated the region with Jews, describing them as “practically mobile, economically enterprising, and educationally ambitious.”
The Vice President stated that he opposed a suggestion to shut off energy supplies to the southeast owing to a debt profile, stating that President Bola Tinubu intends well for the nation and that the southeast and the zone’s governors are the finest, among others.
The Vice President made the remarks on Monday at the South East Business Roundtable “Light up Nigeria Programme” launch in Enugu, which was organised by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, NDPHC.
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State said the ‘Light-Up Nigeria Project’ represents a new dawn for power and industrialization in the South East area, stressing that the effort is consistent with his administration’s disruptive approach to government, which is based on thinking outside the box.
According to Shettima:
“We have to make the South East work; we’re targeting the south east for a two million job for women and the youths. We’re proceeding to Abia state to commission the power station built by the elder statesman, Prof Barth Nnaji and we will also commission some road projects and back to Enugu to commission the Smart school because education is the greatest gift you can give a generation.”
