The internal crisis within the Labour Party (LP) has taken a new turn as the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, has vowed to expose the activities of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other prominent members involved in the ongoing disputes.
Abure made the declaration while addressing journalists, expressing frustration over what he described as attempts to undermine his leadership.
According to Abure, certain elements within the party are working tirelessly to destabilize the leadership structure for personal gains.
He claimed that these individuals, including Obi and his allies, have been making moves to discredit him and take control of the party’s administrative functions.
Abure alleged that false narratives are being pushed to the public to create an impression of crisis where none should exist.
The LP chairman insisted that the party remains united under his leadership and accused the faction led by Obi of attempting to split the party for selfish reasons.
He stressed that the Labour Party is a democratic institution guided by a constitution, and no single individual or group should be allowed to hijack its operations.
Abure pointed out that despite efforts to resolve the internal issues amicably, some party members have continued to fan the flames of division.
He warned that if the situation persists, he would not hesitate to disclose certain information that could implicate those attempting to tarnish his image.
According to him, the facts he intends to reveal will provide clarity on the ongoing leadership tussle and expose the real motives behind the rebellion.
The crisis reportedly began following disagreements over the management of party finances and the decision-making process. Abure claimed that he has consistently maintained transparency and accountability, but some individuals remain unsatisfied with the level of control they have within the party. He accused Obi and his supporters of plotting to force him out of office through underhanded tactics.
Supporters of Abure have backed his stance, asserting that his leadership has strengthened the party since the last general elections. They argued that internal squabbles are detrimental to the party’s progress and called on dissenting members to put personal interests aside for the sake of unity.
On the other hand, Obi’s camp has dismissed Abure’s allegations, insisting that the chairman’s leadership style lacks inclusiveness and accountability.
They argue that the chairman’s refusal to address grievances has fueled the crisis, and they insist that restructuring the leadership is crucial to the party’s future success.
Abure maintained that his commitment to the party’s ideals remains unshaken and urged aggrieved members to approach issues through dialogue rather than confrontation.
He appealed to party stakeholders and supporters to remain steadfast and not be swayed by misleading narratives.
