Abiodun Oyebanji, the governor of Ekiti State, has established a 13-member negotiating team as the state administration begins negotiations with organized labour in preparation for the introduction of the state’s minimum wage.
According to a statement issued in Ado Ekiti by the Governor’s Special Adviser for Media, Yinka Oyebode, the decision to form the committee followed President Bola Tinubu’s signature of the minimum wage bill on July 30, 2024.
According to Oyebode, the negotiating group included government officials as well as the Ekiti state’s organized labour leadership.
Members of the negotiation committee who are government officials include Dr Folakemi Olomojobi, Head of Service (as chairperson); Akintunde Oyebode, Commissioner for Finance; K. Faromiluyi, Special Advisor on Labour Matter; Mrs Titilayo Olayinka, Accountant General.
Other Ekiti state permanent secretaries are Bamise Sunday Julius from the Ministry of Justice, Oluwadare Jolumo from the Ministry of Finance, and Mrs Janet Ajibola from the Office of Establishment and Service Matters.
Organized labour committee members in Ekiti state include Olufemi Ajoloko, Chairman of, the Joint Negotiation Council; Olatunde Kolapo, Chairman, of the Nigeria Labour Congress; and Sola Adigun, Chairman, of the Trade Union Congress.
Yetunde Emmanuel, Secretary of the Joint Negotiation Council; Dr Israel Taiwo, Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Council; and Yemi Peters, Secretary of the Trade Union Congress, are also involved.
The committee’s first meeting, according to the release, is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
